(Not) Sleeping like a baby data visualization
In this .png visualization submitted to Love Data Week 2024, we explore the sleeping patterns of a newborn baby and her sleep-deprived parents during their first month together. Spiral time plots are used to represent the cyclical nature of the day and detect useful patterns. Blue sections indicate periods of sleep, and white sections indicate periods of being awake, as indicated in the key. Time is represented in a 24-hour format, beginning and ending at 0:00h for each daily cycle.
R (4.2.2) was used for the project, tidyverse (2.0.0) for data manipulation and spiralize (1.0.6) to create spiral plots. The final infographic design was created using Adobe Express.
This data visualization won 1st place in the 2024 Iowa State University Love Data Week Data Viz contest.
